PRESS RELEASE (Feb. 24th, 2009)
Proud to Represent St. Lucia
SLU Records would like to thank St. Lucians all over world for the support given to Ricky T. on the night of the International Soca Monarch. It took months of planning and tireless budgeting of numbers to have executed on the night.
We would like to congratulate Fay-ann Lyons for an overwhelming victory both in the groovy and power monarch. Ricky T. positioning on the night was prime time, but at the same time very difficult to compete among Trinidad’s top guns. Trinidad’s pride for their artiste and music is unquestionable. The position he performed at has proven to be great marketing and exposure for St. Lucia and Ricky. Each OECS island government except St. Lucia spent over $50, 000ecd on presentations for their artistes. Luckily for SLU Records 90% of the marketing for our artistes is accomplished outside of Trinidad and the International Monarch Competition. We are extremely grateful for the contribution we received from C.D.F. and The St. Lucia Tourist Board of $22, 000.00ecd. We are hoping as St. Lucia’s music industry develops the powers that be would contribute more towards our music Industry.
SLU Records riddim, the Veteran Riddim placed 3rd with a Trinidadian performer Benjai singing “Drunk Again” in the Groovy Competition. The future for Ricky T. has no boundaries. SLU Records has linked up with Hip Hop artistes to do collaborations for the future and many major festivals have already inquired about the details of his appearance at their festival. Ricky T. has shown a wiliness to improve on his weaknesses and an assurance to better his craft.
Despite any negative rumours or e-mails that that public may have heard about our team, there is absolutely no reason why we would give up on each other. We are however, sympathetic to the fact that most persons do not understand that this is a business, with overheads and other expenses just like any other business. We at SLU Records have recognize that there is much the general public may have to learn about this business and being the first company revolutionising the industry we can expect such criticism. SLU Records has also acknowledged that apart from managing and marketing our artistes and their music, it is also our responsibility to educate the public on how the industry works. We have a pretty big network which is costly but has allowed our artistes to make a substantial income outside of St. Lucia’s carnival. We are poised to keep up the hard work from all our members: Producers, Writers, Artistes, Publicists, Booking Agents and Road Managers. With that said you can expect an amazing St. Lucia Carnival 2009 and fantastic music in the future from SLU Records (Studio 758).
